With more demand for imaging and persistent staffing constraints, imaging center administrators are looking for practical ways to open more appointment slots—especially outside traditional business hours. ContrastConnect supports this growth by providing scheduled and on-demand virtual contrast supervision seven days a week through a HIPAA-compliant platform, helping imaging centers extend service hours while maintaining established safety and compliance workflows.

CMS has finalized a policy that permanently allows "direct supervision" to be furnished using real-time, two-way audio/video technology (excluding audio-only), effective January 1, 2026, for certain services—including diagnostic tests and other specified categories under Medicare Part B. ContrastConnect believes that this change removes a key operational barrier for facilities that previously needed a supervising practitioner physically present to meet Medicare's direct supervision requirements for applicable services.
Under the CY 2026 PFS Final Rule, CMS states it is finalizing a definition of direct supervision that permits the supervising physician or practitioner to supervise via real-time audio and visual interactive telecommunications for applicable services, including diagnostic tests under 42 CFR § 410.32 and certain incident-to and rehabilitation services. As a nationwide virtual supervision provider, ContrastConnect recommends centers evaluate their specific service mix, setting, and payer requirements when planning extended-hours operations.
For imaging centers seeking to expand weekend and holiday availability, ContrastConnect provides a coverage model designed to scale across one or multiple sites. The service offering includes remote supervision infrastructure, scheduled and on-demand coverage, and on-site and virtual technologist training as part of implementation. The center also provides a dedicated physician hotline and ongoing readiness assessments to support consistent operations.
The nationwide virtual contrast supervision provider supervises 30+ contrast reactions treated monthly and offers mock code training and standardized emergency workflows as part of its training and readiness program.
ContrastConnect helps imaging operators extend hours with confidence and reduce scheduling friction that limits capacity. Imaging organizations can evaluate whether virtual contrast supervision, where permitted by state rules and payer policy, can help unlock unused scanner time—especially during evenings, weekends, and holidays—while maintaining a structured approach to training, escalation, and documentation.
