Attorney Michael Marsiglia officially announced his candidacy for Jefferson Parish First Parish Court Judge, Division A, bringing more than two decades of legal experience, extensive courtroom experience, and a decade of service within First Parish Court to the race.
Marsiglia has spent more than 20 years practicing law in all aspects of civil litigation throughout Jefferson Parish and across Louisiana. His legal experience includes representing individuals, businesses, public entities, and governmental institutions, giving him a broad understanding of the issues that bring people before the court and the impact judicial decisions can have on individuals, families, businesses, and the community.
For the past decade, Marsiglia has served as a Traffic Hearing Officer in First Parish Court. He has also served as an Ad Hoc Justice of the Peace for the Fifth Justice of the Peace Court in Jefferson Parish and was appointed by the Louisiana Supreme Court to serve as a Judge Pro Tempore for First Parish Court. In addition, he has served as a court-appointed mediator, conducting over 300 mediations. Through these roles, Marsiglia has gained direct, hands-on experience, including presiding over proceedings, managing dockets, resolving disputes, and ensuring that cases are handled efficiently, professionally, and fairly.
“I have been honored to serve the people of Jefferson Parish for the past decade, and I am asking voters for the opportunity to continue that service as a judge on First Parish Court,” Marsiglia said. “I will bring my experience, fairness, and commitment to public service to the bench while ensuring every person who comes before the court is treated with dignity and respect.”
Marsiglia’s legal career has included serving as counsel to the State of Louisiana, Jefferson Parish, the City of Gretna, the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry, the Jefferson Parish Clerk of Court, and the Jefferson Parish School Board. He also served as special counsel for Jefferson Parish in nationwide opioid litigation.
As a mediator, Marsiglia has been appointed by courts, including the 24th Judicial District Court, as well as through the Hurricanes Ida, Laura, and Zeta Streamlined Settlement Programs. His experience conducting more than 300 mediations has reinforced his belief that fairness and efficiency are not competing values, but essential parts of a well-run courtroom.
“First Parish Court should be a place where the law is applied fairly, cases move efficiently, and every person who comes before the court is treated with respect and dignity,” Marsiglia said. “My experience has prepared me to step into this role on day one and serve the people of Jefferson Parish with a steady hand.”
A Loyola Law School graduate and associate at Berrigan Litchfield, Marsiglia has also dedicated significant time to serving his community. He began volunteering as a pro bono attorney and notary for underserved residents early in his legal career and has continued to mentor the next generation through his work as a Mock Trial Coach at Haynes Academy for Advanced Studies. He also teaches negotiation and advocacy as an adjunct faculty member at Tulane University School of Law and has served as a volunteer youth sports coach.
Marsiglia’s commitment to Jefferson Parish is also deeply rooted in his family. He and his wife, Jennifer LaCorte Marsiglia, have been married for 20 years and are the proud parents of three boys. The family lives in Jefferson Parish, where they remain active in their children’s schools, activities, and community.
“We look forward to spending the coming months on the campaign trail; meeting voters, hearing their concerns for their families and businesses, and working to earn their support,” Marsiglia said.
Early voting for the Jefferson Parish First Parish Court, Division A race will take place October 20-27, 2026, excluding Sunday, October 25. Election Day is November 3rd.
